Möguleikhúsið - The Possible Theatre
Founded in 1990, The Possible Theatre (Möguleikhúsið) is a professional theatre company specializing in performances for children and young people.
It is our aim to ensure easy access to our performances for everyone, and so we travel around the country to perform our shows, mostly at pre-, primary-, and middle schools.
This approach to our audiences opens up theater to children, hopefully as an organic part of the school curriculum. And that is why our theatre has found a secure place in Icelandic society and has become a mainstay for the cultural- and theatrical upbringing of children around the country.
The Possible Theatre has worked hard at introducing Icelandic culture abroad by touring and visiting international theater festivals. In the last few years, we have often toured abroad and have received visits from foreign theater companies. So it is safe to say that our work is recognized internationally.
From 1990 to date, The Possible Theatre has produced 33 new plays for children and young people. Annually the theatre usually plays around 150 performances all around the country for an audience of 15.000 – 20.000 (in a land that has the population of 320.000)
In January 2010 The Possible Theatre was invited with its performance of The Prophecy to the International Showcase of Performing Arts for Young People (Showcase 2010), presented by International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY), in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Possible Theatre was one of 20 professional performing companies from around the world that create dance, music, and theater specifically for young people that has been selected by IPAY 2010 to appear at the Showcase.
